Two years ago, I took a class by Dan Burke at a retreat in Hastings, Michigan.  He taught paper piecing which is his specialty and I chose to do the tree skirt.  The original tree skirt had the parts filled in between the points of the star, and I decided I just wanted the star and turned it into a rug that is now displayed on my living room floor.  Dan was a GREAT teacher, he was very attentive to his students and he for my first paper piecing project, I really enjoyed it.  I have done a few paper piecing projects since and plan on doing more in the future.

Below is the finished product of his teachings!  To check out Dan Burke’s projects, check out his website at Quilting By The River.
